Yesterday, we were very honored when the Governor handed CLCC Executive Director Amy B. Paterson the original signed bill at the ceremony for SB347 (now PA15-23) held at the Capitol. Also in attendance were many of our partners who helped to get this bill across the finish line including CFPA, WLA ,TNC, Rivers Alliance, Commissioner Klee & DEEP staff, State Representatives Ackert, Albis and Willis, as well as Lt. Gov. Wyman (all pictured below). A priority for us this session, this bill changes the cap on combined federal and state funding for projects under DEEP's open space grant program from 70% to 90%, with additional language providing the DEEP Commissioner with discretion to waive the cap entirely under certain conditions. The legislation is a big win for land trusts, towns and water companies by reducing, and potentially eliminating, the often deal-breaking amount of match funding required to close a conservation project.
