CLCC Executive Director
CT Land Conservation Council Seeks Executive Director.
Background: The Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC) was created in 2006 by the merger of the Land Trust Service Bureau (LTSB), which provided technical support to land trusts, and the Land Conservation Coalition of Connecticut (LCCC) which served as an advocacy arm of the land conservation movement. CLCC’s mission is “to ensure the long term strength and viability of the land conservation community of Connecticut”.
Advised and supported by an experienced Steering Committee with statewide representation, CLCC is positioned to lead and support the land conservation community in the following ways:
- As the advocate and unified voice for the land conservation movement at the state capitol.
- As the convener of land trusts, municipalities, and other conservation partners focused on saving Connecticut’s special places.
- As the provider of information, services, and funding that will increase the pace, quality and scale of land conservation in Connecticut while fostering high quality stewardship that assures the perpetual protection of conserved lands.
Position Description: The Executive Director will spend significant time securing financial support for ongoing CLCC activities (especially in the start-up phase of this position), although the Steering Committee has already raised over half of CLCC’s projected budget for 2010. While we anticipate this position will quickly evolve into a full-time salaried position with benefits, we are looking for candidates that will be able to work at a part-time capacity (20-25 hours per week) until sufficient funds are available to make the position full-time. The Executive Director will report to the Steering Committee of CLCC and have responsibility for directing and managing the overall operations of CLCC including strategic planning, budgeting and financial performance, and delivery of services.
In addition to fundraising, specific responsibilities will include the following:
- Build broad awareness and understanding of CLCC’s mission and service offerings among land trusts, the conservation community, the legislature and the public;
- Implement the strategic goals and objectives adopted by the CLCC Steering Committee;
- Work with the CLCC Steering Committee to produce and periodically update CLCC’s strategic plan;
- Develop strong and productive working relationships with land trusts and other conservation organizations, relevant public agencies such as the DEP and Department of Agriculture, with the Connecticut State Legislature and Executive Branch, with local municipalities, and with others impacting land conservation in Connecticut; and
- Represent CLCC’s interests in Hartford and oversee the work of contract Lobbyist.
Qualifications: Qualifications include any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to fulfill the position description above. Experience in non-profit management, fundraising, and land conservation are recommended but not required.
Location: The Executive Director will be located at the Connecticut Forest and Park Association headquarters at 16 Meriden Road, Rockfall, Connecticut 06481. The Connecticut Forest and Park Association, which is serving as the fiscal sponsor for the CLCC, is a private, non-profit organization with a mission to protect forests, parks, walking trails and open spaces for future generations by connecting people to the land.
To Apply: The CLCC seeks to enhance the diversity of its workforce. People of color, women, veterans, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position is available immediately and will remain posted until it is filled. Please send a cover letter and resume via email to the following email address: ehammerling@ctwoodlands.org.
