Congratulations to the Southington Open Space Committee for having been selected to receive the 2014 CLCC Excellence in Conservation Organization Award for its successful planning, creation and completion of the Town of Southington’s Crescent Lake Recreation Area Community Forest Project -- the state’s first community forest to receive the Connecticut Grown recognition for sustainable forest management.
Congratulations to 2014 Katchen Coley Award winners Tom ODell (Westbrook), Sidney Van Zandt (Groton), and Tom Crider (Southbury) for their decades of service advancing conservation locally and statewide.

Building Locations, Directions and Parking
- Registration is at Usdan University Center, 45 Wyllys Ave.
- Plenary Session is at Fayerweather, Beckham Hall
- Classes will take place in Usdan University Center, Fayerweather and 41 Wyllys Avenue locations.
- Maps showing locations of classrooms will be available at Registration.
- Car pooling is encouraged!
- Parking for Attendees: Vine Street Parking Lot (V Lot) next to tennis courts and A Lot on College Street. Shuttle service from V Lot to the Usdan University Center will be available from 8am-10am. Return service will be available at the conclusion of the Conference and again after the Reception.
- Parking for presenters is reserved for Wyllys Street E Lots.
- We have included a small map showing parking areas in our Conference Brochure which is attached below.

Connecticut Land Conservation Conference
This is a banner year, marking 30 years of learning, sharing and growing skills & knowledge!
The Connecticut Land Conservation Conference is the state’s largest annual full-day land conservation gathering, and CLCC's premier event. Now in its 30th year, the annual Conference provides an opportunity for affordable and dynamic training for members of the state's conservation community, including board members, staff and volunteers from Connecticut’s 137+ land trusts, land use professionals and volunteers, municipal land use commission members, advocates, environmental educators, students and others interested in land conservation.
2014 Conference Highlights
Plenary Session - Speakers
The 2014 Conference will feature the following esteemed leaders from the public and private sectors who will share their insights on the topic of The Economic Benefits of Open Space, particularly as they relate to the benefits that state parks, nature-based recreation, forestry and agriculture provide to our economy and quality of life in Connecticut: Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Rob Klee, Department of Agriculture Commissioner Steven K. Reviczky, and Land Trust Alliance National Services Director Erin Heskett.
Plenary Session - Awards
The Plenary Session will also include a presentation of our Excellence in Conservation Organization Award and the Katchen Coley Award for Excellence in Land Conservation, recognizing outstanding achievements in land conservation by organizations and individuals, respectively.
Curriculum - 9 Subject Matter Tracks - 30 Workshops - 4 Seminars
Based upon your feedback, we have once again organized the curriculum around subject matter tracks, featuring a choice of 30 (90 minute) workshops and, new for 2014, 4 half-day afternoon seminars. Our faculty is a mix of state and national consultants, educators and advocates, and your land trust peers! Workshop Descriptions and Table are attached below.
Lunch and Table Talks
The Usdan Center at Wesleyan University offers a bright and spacious dining room, where you will be free to enjoy the lunch break with your friends and colleagues, while also having the option to join some of our faculty and sponsors for casual table talks on topics of interest.
What better way to cap off a full day of learning than to join us for a post-conference reception -- an informal gathering to socialize and celebrate accomplishments in land conservation with friends and colleagues from across the state, featuring a sampling of delicious food and drink from Connecticut's own.
